The Esquisses Ensemble is the result of a shared desire to explore the repertoire for equal voices, with the aim of discovering (or rediscovering) composers (men and women) and little-known works of the modern and contemporary periods.
This all-female vocal group is among the most singular of its generation, conspicuous in its commitment to the creation of new works and known for its clean, sculptural sound, carefully honed by its conductor, Guillemette Daboval.
These qualities are admirably demonstrated in this, the group’s first recording, “Par un matin”. With pieces ranging from the sacred (André Caplet’s Messe à trois voix, Francis Poulenc’s Litanies, and Agnus by Caroline Marçot) to the sensual (Chansons érotiques by Olivier Kaspar, recorded here for the first time) and the tragic (Ernest Chausson’s Chant funèbre), this programme combines splendid work on the sound material with fine unity in the dramatic inspiration, bringing out the poetry of these compositions with absolute sincerity.

C’est d’un désir commun d’explorer le répertoire à voix égales que naît l’ensemble Esquisses. Avec pour horizon la (re)découverte : celle de compositrices et de compositeurs, d'œuvres méconnues, modernes ou contemporaines.
La formation vocale féminine est l’une des plus singulières de sa génération. Elle se distingue par son engagement dans la création, et une sonorité propre, sculpturale, ciselée avec précision par sa cheffe, Guillemette Daboval.
Son premier enregistrement, Par un matin, s’inscrit pleinement dans cet ADN. Du registre sacré (André Caplet, Messe à trois voix, Francis Poulenc, Litanies, Caroline Marçot, Agnus) au charnel (Olivier Kaspar, Chansons érotiques, enregistrées ici pour la première fois) et au tragique (Ernest Chausson, Chant funèbre), le programme conjugue un splendide travail sur la matière sonore à un même souffle dramatique, sublimant la poésie de son absolue sincérité.
